Luis Enrique Breaks Silence On Chelsea-PSG Brawl After Club World Cup Final

 

Despite appearing to put his palm in the face of goalscorer Joao Pedro, Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has detailed how he attempted to calm the situation during the intense full-time scenes following the FIFA Club World Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

The Blues won the Club World Cup final 3-0 over PSG on Sunday night at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, making them world champions.

Cole Palmer scored two goals before the summer signing. Pedro scored a third goal to secure Chelsea’s triumph in the United States.

Following the final whistle, players and officials from both Chelsea and PSG engaged in a major brawl, which also saw Enrique clash with Pedro.

Enrique was joined by Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca in the heated discussion, as staff and players from both clubs attempted to intervene. According To Football London.

Enrique talked to media after the game and was asked about the animosity between Chelsea and PSG that erupted after the final whistle in East Rutherford.

“I have no problem expressing my feelings at the end of the game in a high level of pressure,” Enrique told reporters Sunday. “It’s incredibly stressful for all of us. It will be impossible to avoid that.

“I have seen [Enzo] Maresca,” Enrique subsequently remarked. “I noticed he had pushed others, and we had to separate all of the guys. I’m not sure where that pressure came from.

“But I think this is a situation we should all avoid, that goes without saying. My objective was clear: I wanted to separate the players so that the situation did not worsen.
