Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may have quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but his much-talked-about move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is still on hold and it’s all deliberate.

Sources close to Atiku said that the former VP wants to make the switch in grand style and not through proxies.

“For someone like Atiku, you can’t just send someone to collect a membership card. People need to see him walk in, take the card, and sign the papers himself,” the insider said.

The source revealed that the reason for the delay is,  Atiku only returned to Nigeria briefly for Buhari’s burial in Daura before jetting out again for a two-week vacation abroad.

“Once he’s back, that’s one of the first big moves he will make. And trust me, it won’t be a quiet affair. It’s going to be planned for maximum media visibility,” the source added.

Political watchers say the timing of his official defection could shake up opposition politics ahead of 2027.
