Funke Approached Me After Her Brother Showed Her My Work—We Started Jenifa’s Diary Together–Skillz

JJC Skillz has shared the story of how his career took a transformative turn into Nollywood filmmaking after a serendipitous meeting with actress Funke Akindele. The connection originated while he was rebranding MITV and mentoring a young editor—who happened to be Funke’s younger brother.

During his interview on "CreativiTEA," JJC Skillz explained that, after seeing the quality of his work, Funke Akindele approached him to collaborate on her new show, Jenifa's Diary. This professional relationship soon blossomed into a romance and, eventually, marriage. It also marked the point when he decided to dedicate his creative energy fully to producing Nollywood content.

JJC Skillz recounted:

“I was working on rebranding MITV, and a fan asked me if her younger brother, Daniel, could learn editing from me. Whenever we completed a project, Daniel would take it home to show his family. One day, his sister called and said, ‘Can you come and shoot something for me?’ That was Funke. She wanted to start a show called Jenifa's Diary, and that was how our journey began. Eventually, romance followed and we became a couple. That’s when I truly focused on Nollywood, and that’s how the new generation came to know me.”
