I was going to be the minister in charge of electricity and I had a plan I gave to Tinubu–El-Rufai

 Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has disclosed that he was initially slated to serve as Nigeria's Minister of Power with an ambitious plan to achieve nationwide 24/7 electricity coverage by 2030.

During a recent interview on Channels Television, El-Rufai revealed details of his proposed role in President Bola Tinubu's administration and expressed frustration over what he described as political games that prevented the implementation of his electricity reform plan.

"I was going to be the minister in charge of electricity, and I had a plan to ensure that by 2030, every part of Nigeria is covered with 24/7 reliable electricity. That was the plan I gave to Tinubu," El-Rufai stated.

The former governor questioned critics who suggested his involvement was driven by personal ambition, arguing that national development should supersede such concerns.

"What is the ambition there? What is the ambition? Finally, what if I have ambition? If the work that I will do will provide Nigerians with electricity, will solve their problems—what has my ambition got to do with it? Is the country not important enough to tolerate my ambition if I had any?" he asked.

El-Rufai expressed strong criticism of what he characterized as political maneuvering at the expense of national progress.

"It is sheer idiocy and lack of love for country, okay, for people to sit and play games like that with the destiny of a country, okay?" he declared.

Comparing his proposed approach with the current administration's progress, El-Rufai questioned the effectiveness of the current power ministry.

"So they have their minister of power. Have they made progress with electricity?" he asked rhetorically.

The former governor revealed that his electricity plan was developed by international consulting firms without charge, emphasizing the credibility and professional nature of the proposal.

"I took the entire plan, which was developed by McKinsey and Boston Consulting Group—pro bono because they know me, they respect me. I gave the entire plan to the government," El-Rufai disclosed.
