Nigeria’s Media Mourns The Death of Two Young and Bright Broadcasters

 According to a video posted by TVC news on September 30 2025 Nigeria’s media industry has been thrown into mourning following the deaths of two young broadcasters, Somtuchukwu Crystal Madiago of Arise Television and Kayode Onuke, popularly known as “Kaba,” of Adimejo 107.7 FM.

Somto, as she was fondly called, was a news anchor, producer, lawyer, and former beauty queen. She was killed during an armed robbery attack at her home in Katampe, Abuja. The management of Arise TV confirmed the heartbreaking news on Monday, describing her as a vibrant and talented professional whose voice touched many lives.

Born on December 26, 1995, Somto had already made her mark as a rising star in broadcasting. Colleagues remember her for her smile, intelligence, and dedication to her work. “She was not just a journalist; she was a lawyer, a model, and someone who carried light wherever she went,” one colleague said. Arise TV expressed its condolences to her family and called for a swift police investigation to bring those responsible to justice.

In a separate tragedy, Adimejo Communications announced the death of Kayode Onuke, affectionately called “Kaba,” a popular presenter at the Idoki-based radio station. In a statement signed by the Chief Operating Officer, Babatunde Bamidele, Kaba was described as “warm, open-minded, and passionate about his craft.” Listeners and co-workers admired him for his energy and creativity behind the microphone.

Both deaths have left a painful gap in the media world. On live television, presenters and guests struggled to hold back tears as they paid tribute to Somto, calling her life “a candle burnt out too soon.” Listeners also poured in their tributes for Kaba, remembering him as a voice that brightened mornings and evenings across Idoki.

As Nigeria prepares to mark its 65th independence anniversary, these tragedies serve as a reminder of the challenges the nation faces rising insecurity and the loss of young talents who had so much more to give.
