Officer Yerima: I Will Not Allow Anything To Happen To Him For Doing His Job – Minister Of Defence

 

According to a report by Channels Television on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, has assured that the Federal Government will protect all officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces who are performing their official duties. 

The assurance was given during a press briefing held on Wednesday at the National Defence College, Abuja, marking the commencement of activities for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. 

The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to the welfare and safety of military personnel across all branches.

Abubakar highlighted that officers carrying out their responsibilities within the law would not face threats or harassment. 

He stressed that the Ministry of Defence and the Military High Command are dedicated to ensuring that personnel executing their duties with professionalism are fully supported and protected. 

This statement underlines the government’s focus on maintaining discipline and morale among the nation’s armed forces.

The minister’s comments come against the backdrop of recent incidents where military personnel have been involved in enforcement or civil operations, sometimes facing confrontations with civilian officials. 

He emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that officers can perform their duties without fear of retaliation or undue interference. 

According to Abubakar, such protections are essential for the effective functioning of the Armed Forces.

In addition, the Defence Minister stated that the government would continue to monitor situations that involve military personnel in sensitive operations. 

He assured that all measures would be taken to prevent harm to officers while they carry out lawful duties. 

Abubakar also underlined the role of discipline and professionalism as guiding principles for every member of the armed forces, reinforcing the importance of accountability in all operations.

The statement by the Defence Minister reinforces the government’s stance on the protection and support of its uniformed personnel. 

By guaranteeing safety and backing for officers acting within the law, Abubakar’s remarks aim to ensure that the Nigerian Armed Forces can perform their duties effectively, maintain high morale, and continue to uphold the security of the nation.

He said, “Rest assured that any officer on lawful duty will be protected. I will not allow anything to happen to any officer doing his job and doing his job credibly well.”
