President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a fresh batch of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for approval, expanding the three-man list he sent earlier in the week. The new list contains 15 career diplomats and 17 non-career nominees, with a combined total of 10 women.
In two letters to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu urged lawmakers to speedily confirm the nominees, who will be deployed to countries with strategic ties to Nigeria, including China, India, Canada, Mexico, the UAE, Qatar, South Korea, South Africa, and Kenya. Others will serve in key multilateral missions such as the United Nations, UNESCO, and the African Union. Their specific postings will be announced after confirmation.
The non-career list features several prominent political figures, including former presidential aide Reno Omokri; former INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu; former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode; former Lagos deputy governor Otunba Femi Pedro; ex-Enugu governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; former Abia governor Okezie Ikpeazu; Senator Jimoh Ibrahim; former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Angela Adebayo; former Oyo First Lady Florence Ajimobi; former Lagos commissioner Lola Akande; former ambassador to the Holy See Paul Oga Adikwu; former Adamawa senator Grace Bent; and Barrister Ogbonnaya Kalu, among others.
The 15 career diplomats nominated include Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu, Yakubu Nyaku Danladi, Miamuna Ibrahim Besto, Musa Musa Abubakar, Syndoph Paebi Endoni, Chima Geoffrey Lioma David, Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim, Abimbola Samuel Reuben, Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah, Hamza Mohammed Salau, Ambassador Shehu Barde, Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno, Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru, Ambassador Olatunji Ahmed Sulu Gambari, and Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande.
This submission follows last week’s first batch of nominees, Ambassador Ayodele Oke, Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu, and retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are who are expected to be deployed to major Western missions in the UK, USA, or France.
The presidency noted that additional ambassadorial nominations will be announced in due course.
