Bandits have once again struck the Eruku community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting a 40-year-old farmer identified as Mr. Aasaru.
The attack, carried out on Sunday by a group of about four armed men, marks the second incident in Eruku within one month.
It also comes shortly after the federal government secured the freedom of 38 worshippers kidnapped from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in the same community.
According to local reports, the assailants ambushed the farmer while he was working on his farm located along the road that links Eruku to the neighbouring Koro community.
The attackers reportedly stormed the area around 12:30 p.m., seized the farmer, and escaped into the surrounding bush.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Kwara State Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated that officers in the Eruku Division received a distress report around 2:00 p.m.
She explained that the complainant informed them that the armed gang had invaded the farmland, abducted Mr. Aasaru, and fled before help could arrive.
In response, the police immediately coordinated with military personnel and local vigilante groups to launch an intensive search-and-rescue mission.
Ejire-Adeyemi assured that security agents are making sustained efforts to track down the kidnappers and ensure the farmer’s safe return.
The latest abduction has heightened concerns about rising insecurity in Eruku and surrounding communities.
Residents, already shaken by previous incidents, are calling for stronger security measures to prevent further attacks and protect farmers working in isolated areas.
