Naomi Osaka brutally turned down a marriage proposal from a fan on Instagram as she fielded questions from her followers. The tennis star has been single for nearly 12 months, having split up with her former boyfriend Cordae back in January. The couple were together for around six years and produced a daughter, Shai, before going their separate ways.
Osaka is still believed to be without a partner, but her true relationship status is unconfirmed with the Japanese player tending to keep her private life under wraps. One brave fan decided to try their luck during a Q&A session on Instagram, brazenly asking the four-time Grand Slam champion for her hand in marriage. She admitted to being 'confused' by the question but tried to respond as politely as possible.
"I'm confused by questions like this because you don't know me," said Osaka, posting on her story. "Insane commitment from your end."
When confirming her split from Cordae earlier this year, the 28-year-old claimed that their relationship ended on good terms and described the rapper as 'an awesome dad'.
"Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship," she wrote in a message to her social media followers. "No bad blood at all, he's a great person and an awesome dad.
"Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing, and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together."
Osaka has also spoken about how her daughter has positively impacted her life and tennis career. Even before giving birth, she insisted that her main goal was to win another Grand Slam and dedicate it to her child.
In the same Q&A session, another fan asked Osaka about the struggles of motherhood and she provided a lengthy response.
"I'm not going to lie to you, I also struggled tremendously," wrote Osaka. "I think for me, I journaled a lot to keep track of how I felt. I was also lucky because I could play tennis, and being on the court was a place of comfort for me.
"I would suggest you make time to do things that make you happy and also enjoy your new role because I promise you the time is going to go so quick and before you know it, your baby is going to be talking back to you with sass."
When asked by a third fan to name her biggest achievement of the 2025 season, Osaka replied: "No achievement sticks out but I’m proud that I didn’t give up on myself."
