BUK, Igbinedion, Al- Hikmah, UNILORIN students shine at inter-varsities Qur’an competition

 A female medical student of the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo state, Firdaws Idris

and a male engineering student of the Bayero University, Kano, Sodiq Ahmed AbdulRahman, were the toasts of Islamic scholars and academics at the grand finale of the  4th inter universities  Qur’an memorisation held in Ilorin. 

The duo displayed exceptional knowledge of the Qur’an memorisation and emerged first in their various categories (A and B).

Over 24 universities from North-central and South-east participated in the week long spiritual exercise organised by the centre for Islamic Heritage, Al- Hikmah University, Ilorin, according to the acting director of the centre, Dr. Nafiu Arikewuyo.  

For Category A: (10 Hizb), Firdaws beat 22 others to clinch the 1st position. 

Abdulmuneen Abubakar Al-Imam of  Agric Science Department, Al-Hikmah University came second in the category while  Ziyadatul Khayr Al-Ameen, a student of  Plant Biology ,University of Ilorin got the third position. 

For Category B: (30 Hizb), Sadik Ahmad  Usman

Engineering, student of Bayero University, Kano emerged first and the overall best reciter.

The second position was clinched by Atukale AbdulQuadir Olarewaju, a student of

Metrological Engineering  University of Lagos, Lagos while  Sheriffdeen AbdulRaheem Akin of the Department of Building and Quantity  Surveying, University of Abuja emerged third. 

Speaking at the grand finale of the competition and presentation of merit awards to two distinguished Nigerians, Kwara state Grand Khadi, Justice Abdulateed Kamaldeen urged Muslim umah to embrace the pursuit for the aquisation of the knowledge of the Qur’an and allow it teachings and doctrines reflect  in their daily lives.

Vice Chancellor, Al- Hikmah University, Professor Abdulateef Oladimeji and Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN) who declared the event opened lauded the efforts of the center aimed at reawakening spiritual rejuvenation and upholding values amongst the students of higher institutions of learning across the country.
