Nigerian Super Eagles defeated Egypt 4-2 on penalties following a goalless draw in Casablanca, Morocco on Saturday to secure third place at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament, thanks to outstanding saves by Stanley Nwabali in the penalty shootout.
However, after the 2026 African Cup of Nations third place fixture between Nigeria and Egypt, CAF has taken to social media to share photo of Egypt goalkeeper, Mostafa Shobeir applauding Nigerian Super Eagles shot-stopper, Stanley Nwabali after saving a penalty in the shootout.
Sharing photo of Egypt goalkeeper, Mostafa Shobeir clapping for Stanley Nwabali after his penalty save, CAF posted on Facebook: "Penalty saved, sportsmanship preserved."
This Facebook post from CAF, has attracted reactions from Nigerians and social media users, as some have commended the both goalkeepers, while some have congratulated the Nigerian Super Eagles.
