The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has accused former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, of engaging in what it described as double-faced politics by posing as an opposition leader in the state while allegedly seeking personal benefits from the ruling party in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Friday night, the party’s spokesperson in the state, Abdulwaheed Babatunde, said Saraki owed his supporters and the public an explanation over claims that he aligns with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State but privately supports President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition at the federal level
Babatunde said allegations that Saraki is affiliating with the APC in Abuja for personal gains, while retaining opposition credentials at home, cast doubts on his political sincerity.
He described the alleged conduct as hypocrisy, disloyalty and double-dealing, adding that it amounted to a betrayal of supporters who have remained loyal to the former Kwara governor.
“Since Prof. Sulaiman Abubakar dropped the bombshell during a radio session, we have seen a well-coordinated attempt to smear his personality by some hirelings.
“That’s very low and unwise, and what is expected of the former senate president is to clarify the issue because it is a weighty allegation,” Babatunde said.
The APC spokesman said Saraki had a responsibility to address the matter rather than allow what he described as attacks on those who raised the allegations.
He added that the former governor owed it to public conscience and to his followers, “whose loyalty continues to hang in the balance, to put the matter in proper perspective.”
Babatunde claimed the allegations were consistent with Saraki’s political past, describing them as a reflection of his long-standing political character.
“It only confirms the vintage Saraki: cunning, deceptive, unprincipled, and loyal to himself alone,” he said.
Babatunde also recalled Saraki’s emergence as Senate President in 2015, alleging that the former lawmaker betrayed the party leadership at the time and disrespected Tinubu in the process.
According to the APC spokesperson, Saraki’s political history shows a pattern of failing to stick to principles, warning officials engaging with him in Abuja to exercise caution.
He said the APC continued to gain strength under Tinubu’s leadership, pointing to the performance of Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, as evidence of the party’s growing appeal in the state.
“Whoever wants to affiliate with this winning team should do so boldly without playing hanky-panky or hide-and-seek,” he said.
Babatunde added that any attempt to benefit from the ruling party while maintaining opposition politics elsewhere would be “treacherous and unacceptable.”
