According to a report by Daily Post, on Sunday January 25, 2026, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has stressed that his highest loyalty is to Kano State and not to any individual, political leader, or group.
He made this position clear amid rising political debates within the state, the governor said that the interest of Kano must always come before personal relationships or political alliances.
According to him, leadership should be guided by service to the people and protection of the state’s unity and explained that no single person, no matter how powerful, should be placed above Kano State.
Governor Yusuf stated that everyone involved in governance must understand this principle, he said that political loyalty should never outweigh commitment to the peace, progress, and stability of Kano and added that Kano belongs to all its people and must be defended collectively.
His statements come at a time of visible political realignments and internal disagreements among major political blocs in the state.
He spoke on the origins of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, he stated that the movement was a collective effort and not the work of one individual alone.
He explained that he and several others jointly formed the movement during a difficult political period, he said the group also designed its identity and symbol, including the popular red cap that later became widely associated with the movement.
According to him, the movement was built at a time when its members faced political isolation and strong opposition, he said the early supporters worked together to keep the group alive and relevant in Kano politics.
“Let me remind everybody that, to me, Kano comes first, not loyalty to anybody. Myself and five others created the Kwankwasiyya Movement and even gave it a Red Cap symbol, not Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso," he said.
