Destiny Boy: Singer’s mother shares 5 key details about son’s demise, mentions name of sickness

The mother of Nigerian Afro-Fuji artiste Afeez Adesina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has finally broken her silence following the sudden death of her son at the age of 22.

 The young singer passed away on Sunday after reportedly falling seriously ill. Videos that later surfaced online showed Destiny Boy lying unresponsive in the backseat of a car while he was being transported, allegedly to a mortuary.

Although the cause of his death has not been officially confirmed, widespread rumours claimed he died in a herbalist’s house after undergoing money rituals. These allegations have now been firmly denied by his mother.

Speaking, Destiny Boy’s mother dismissed the claims, insisting that her son never engaged in money rituals.

She revealed that Destiny Boy had been battling a health condition for several years, which she described as seizure-like attacks known locally as ‘Oku Oru’. According to her, whenever the condition struck, he would collapse and later become disoriented after regaining consciousness.

The singer’s mother further explained that the family kept his illness private to protect his image as he was celebrity. She said they sought help from hospitals, churches, and traditional healers, but none provided a permanent solution.

She recounted that about two weeks before his death, Destiny Boy was taken to the house of the herbalist, Ifayomi, for treatment. She maintained regular phone contact and was assured he was stable. However, days later, she was informed that his condition had worsened.

In her words: “He would have clocked 23 years this year. Firstly, I want everyone to know that he has gone to rest. I am the mum and I am ready to tell the world what you don’t know about him. About two years ago when Destiny had his son and wanted to do the naming, Ifayomi who was his babalawo he should come and take a cow. Ifayomi love him so much. 

“As Destiny and his dad were on their way to Ifayomi’s house, he fell down and he was rushed to the hospital. Ifayomi was sending money for his hospital treatment but there was no solution so he said we should bring him to his house. He then gave me a soap that I should use it to bath him which I did and we went back home. God will curs£ everyone using my son’s name to trend. The sickness did not leave his body. It is like a seizure and we call it ‘Oku oru’. Anytime the thing strikes him, he will fall on the floor and when he recovers, he will start running around like a mad person. We didn’t let the public know about this because he was a celebrity. We took him to churches, herbalists, etc for him to get a cure all to no avail

“Two weeks ago, Destiny was coming back from Ayetoro and they took him to Ifayomi’s house for treatment. The dad went there and called me to come but there was no one to stay in my shop so I told them to excuse me but I was calling him on the phone and they said he was doing fine. Five days ago, I called him but he didn’t pick. Three days ago, I told his sister to send a message of greetings to him. 

“Two days ago, I was in the house when they called me that I should start coming to Ifayomi’s house because the seizure had started again. They said nothing was wrong with him before the seizure started, infact Ifayomi was not home, it was when he got back that he started giving him some treatment to no avail so they decided to rush him to the hospital. By the time I got to the hospital, they told me he had passed away. My son didn’t do any money ritual.”
