George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has stated that the anti-graft agencies have been strengthened and that a lot of money has been recovered as part of the efforts to tackle corruption.
In a video shared by ESET TV, Akume said that recovering stolen funds is one of the ways the government is fighting corruption. He stated that some people involved in corrupt acts are being jailed, while private jets and many houses linked to illegal wealth have also been confiscated.
Akume said that under the current government of President Tinubu, a very big institution like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was probed, and a lot of issues were uncovered during the investigation. He stated that these actions show that the government is not sitting idly by but is actively taking steps to address corruption in the country.
In Akume's words: "The anti-graft agencies have been strengthened, a lot of monies have been recovered. This is one way of fighting corruption. People are being jailed, private jets have been confiscated and so many houses. Under this government a very big institution like the CBN was probed and that is where a lot was also uncovered"
