The 2026 Finalissima clash between European champions Spain and South American champions Argentina has been officially cancelled, according to an announcement from UEFA.

The highly anticipated match was originally scheduled to take place on March 27 at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar, but organizers cited the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as the primary reason for calling off the event.

Reporting from various sports outlets indicates that the cancellation followed weeks of gridlock between the two governing bodies.

While UEFA initially proposed moving the fixture to the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, the Argentine Football Association reportedly rejected the change of venue.

Further negotiations involving a potential two-legged home-and-away format or a postponement until after the 2026 World Cup also collapsed due to a lack of available dates in the international calendar.
