New details have emerged following the latest controversy involving Nollywood actresses Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi.
The drama began after a video surfaced online showing Ajeyemi approaching Akindele’s table at a recent event, after greeting actress Iyabo Ojo.
In the clip, Toyin appeared to say, “Aunty Funke,” while attempting to greet her colleague. However, Akindele maintained a stern expression and looked away without acknowledging her.
Ajeyemi then exchanged pleasantries with Williams Benson, who was seated beside Akindele, and seemed to make another attempt to greet the box office record holder, but Akindele still did not respond.
She subsequently turned back to greet Iyabo Ojo again and also exchanged greetings with actress and filmmaker Mercy Aigbe before leaving the table.
The video has since sparked divided reactions online, with some netizens criticising Akindele for what they described as a public show of disrespect. Others, however, urged caution, suggesting that the public may not be aware of the full story behind the apparent tension.
Weighing in on the issue, a YouTube commentator known as JAGABANYOUTUBE alleged that the rift may be linked to events in December 2025.
According to the commentator, Toyin Abraham and filmmaker Niyi Akinmolayan had accused Akindele of sabotaging their film in cinemas after Abraham’s movie, Oversabi Aunty, reportedly underperformed during its opening weekend.
The commentator further claimed that false narratives were pushed at the time to paint Akindele in a negative light.
“Now that both movies are out of the cinema, you want to start forming friendship. Maintain the same energy,” the commentator alleged.
The rumoured tension between the two actresses is not new. In 2021, Toyin Abraham’s The Ghost and the Tout Too and Funke Akindele’s Omo Ghetto: The Saga were released around the same period, leading to comparisons from fans and fueling speculation of rivalry.
Despite the persistent rumours, Ajeyemi had repeatedly dismissed claims of bad blood and has publicly praised Akindele. In 2024, she addressed competition in the Yoruba film industry, noting that gossip and fan-driven narratives often create unnecessary tension among colleagues.
