The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State is considering adopting a consensus approach in selecting its candidates for the 2027 general elections.
State chairman of the party, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, dropped the hint on Wednesday in Ilorin during a visit by former commissioner of finance and aspirant for the House of Representatives seat for Oke-Ero/Isin/Ifelodun federal constituency, Mrs Florence Oyeyemi.
Fagbemi said the party leadership is considering a strategy to streamline the number of aspirants across elective positions in order to maintain unity within its ranks.
Describing the APC as a single family, he said efforts would be made to eliminate factors that could trigger internal crises before, during and after the elections.
“I pray we’re not going to go through rancorous primaries, but the party will come up with guidelines in due course. We will streamline and choose among the contestants,” he said.
He assured that the process of selecting candidates would be fair to all aspirants, irrespective of age, gender or religion.
Earlier, the House of Representatives aspirant, Mrs Florence Oyeyemi, said her decision to contest was inspired by the “impressive performance of the APC at both the state and national levels”.
