Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Segun Sowunmi, has reacted to the emergence of a campaign poster by Yusuf Buhari, who is reportedly seeking election into the House of Representatives.
Yusuf Buhari is the son of Nigeria’s late former President, Muhammadu Buhari.
In a message shared publicly, Sowunmi offered prayers and words of encouragement to the aspiring lawmaker, describing his decision to pursue a political path as commendable.
“Oh Great Sovereign, Our Lord! The owner of the heavens, the Earth and all things in between. Reward Yusuf! Make the people stand by him. Well done, son. You have done noble,” Sowunmi stated.
He further praised the late former president, noting that Muhammadu Buhari did not impose his son on the political system while in office, despite having the influence to do so. According to him, this restraint reflects the late leader’s character.
“That your late dad did not force you on the system when he could is additional evidence that he was special. Always remember whose son you are. Best of luck,” he added.
The development has sparked reactions across social and political spaces, with many Nigerians debating the implications of political legacies and the increasing involvement of children of prominent leaders in elective politics.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from Yusuf Buhari confirming details of his political ambition, but the circulation of the campaign poster has already drawn significant public attention.
