Damilola Adegbite
Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite, has shared why she has remained single since her 2017 divorce from Ghanaian actor Chris Attoh from Tinsel.
In the candid clip, the actress reveals that the decision goes far beyond personal feelings, emphasising the unique responsibilities of single parenthood when considering remarriage.
Adegbite, who shares a son, Brian, with her ex-husband, explains that single parents must approach dating differently. In her words: “You’re not just choosing a partner for yourself anymore. You are choosing a second parent for your child.”
She noted that it is important to observe the potential partner’s character, morals, and values, particularly how they would treat her child. “It’s not that I haven’t met some amazing men,” she notes.
“There is a deeper question… do they have the morals, the values, the character that I would like my child to grow around? You have to be sure that the person you are bringing into your life and into your child’s life is capable of being a good parent. Someone who would treat your child like theirs.”
The actress warns against rushing into new relationships for emotional reasons alone: “Because at the end of the day, you are not just building a relationship, you are building a home.” She urges single parents to “choose wisely” for the sake of the family they are creating.
Damilola Adegbite and Chris Attoh dated after working together on the soap opera Tinsel, welcomed their son, Brian, in 2014, and married privately in Accra, Ghana, in February 2015. They divorced in September 2017 after roughly two years.
