Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has told President Bola Tinubu that he should “better pack and go back to Lagos” ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku made the declaration when asked by journalists for his message to his main opponent, President Tinubu, shortly after clinching the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket.
Atiku was on Wednesday night declared the winner of the ADC presidential primary election after the results from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were officially announced.
The development followed the resumption of the collation process on Wednesday night after the party had adjourned the nationwide exercise on Tuesday with the results from 12 states still outstanding.
Following the final collation of the remaining states, the official figures showed Atiku polling a total of 1,855,787 votes to secure the party’s ticket. He maintained a wide margin over his closest rival, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, who secured 509,397 votes, while former banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen recorded 180,903 votes.
According to the breakdown of the state-by-state results, Hayatu-Deen won Kwara State, while Amaechi secured victories in Bayelsa and Rivers states. Atiku won the remaining states and the FCT to claim the overall victory.
Recall that just days ago, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, President Tinubu secured the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a landslide nationwide direct primary election. During that contest, Tinubu faced a lone challenger, Edo State businessman and APC chieftain Stanley Osifo.
The President won with 10,999,162 votes from the 12,643,306 registered party members, while Osifo secured 16,503 votes.
