Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a truck conveying 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances in a major intelligence-led operation along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, leading to the arrest of four suspects who are currently assisting investigators.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday at the Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed that the truck was allegedly transporting the military uniforms from Lagos to a destination in Nigeria’s South-East region.
According to him, security operatives acted swiftly after receiving intelligence about the movement of the vehicle.
“This was intercepted by operatives of the tactical team while it was being moved out of Lagos State. We received intelligence on the movement and immediately swung into action. The vehicle conveying the sacks was headed from Lagos to a destination in the South-East.
“Following the intelligence, the vehicle was intercepted and those transporting the items were arrested. They are currently in our custody and investigations are ongoing,” Fatai said.
The police commissioner revealed that the truck was also carrying 80 cartons of substances suspected to be illicit drugs alongside the military camouflage uniforms.
He said investigations are ongoing to uncover those responsible for importing and transporting the items, as well as the intended use of the uniforms.
“Areas where we have seen these bandits, we have seen them wear these uniforms all over the place, who knows what they want to do with this, nobody could tell. We are still investigating to get to the root of the matter for now,” the Police Commissioner said.
Fatai assured that the command would continue its investigation until all individuals connected to the operation are identified and brought to justice.
