Speaking to Portuguese broadcaster Sport TV before Portugal’s Round of 32 game against Croatia on Thursday, the 48-year-old singer said she had been told by a trusted source.
“From what I know, this is his last dance with the national team. I don’t think it’s happening today, but it’s close. Enjoy him while you can. After 200 goals, it will be hard to find another player like him,” Aveiro said.
Portugal beat Croatia 2-1 in Toronto, with Ronaldo scoring the equaliser from the penalty spot. The goal took him to 10 World Cup goals, making him Portugal’s all-time top scorer at the tournament.
But the 41-year-old Al Nassr forward avoided giving a firm answer on retirement afterwards.
“My future is not the focus now. Whether we win or lose, I will speak with my family and decide calmly. I no longer make rushed choices. I’m just enjoying the moment,” Ronaldo stated.
He has said before that the 2026 World Cup “will definitely” be his last, as he will be 41 by then.
The victory sends Portugal into the Round of 16, where they will meet Spain.
