Why I’m no longer seen with Funke Akindele — Kamo

Popular Nigerian skit maker Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, has explained why he is no longer frequently seen with actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, dismissing rumours of a fallout between them.

Speaking during an interview with BBC Yoruba on Wednesday, Kamo explained that the reason they are no longer seen together as often is because both of them are busier with their respective careers.

Recounting how their relationship began, Kamo said he had admired Akindele long before they met.

“Before I met her, she had been like a role model to me; I love her very much. The first time I saw her in person was on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa. I started calling her mummy because of how she treated me on set,” he said.

He added that Akindele was impressed by his work ethic, leading to several collaborations on her productions, including Ayetoro and Behind the Scene.

Addressing claims that they had fallen out, Kamo insisted their bond had only grown stronger despite their busy schedules.

“We are still together, even closer. But now she is very busy with her December project, which didn’t give her a chance. I am also not the same as I used to be last year, and her prayer is that I should also always be called to work on projects,” he said.

The comedian also urged people to stop spreading false narratives about their relationship.

“There is no fight; don’t let people paint what doesn’t exist,” he added.
