Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has opened up about a deeply personal moment when his son, Tega, revealed his ambition to become an actor—only after finishing university. RMD shared that the revelation moved him to tears and filled him with immense pride.
In an interview on the Morayo Afolabi-Brown Podcast, RMD discussed working with his son on the film Revelations and explained why Tega had kept his dreams hidden for years. He noted that during his son’s entire time in school, there was never any indication that Tega wanted to follow the same career path.
“He never once told me he wanted to act,” RMD recalled.
It wasn’t until Tega’s graduation day that he finally shared his true aspirations. “That’s when he said, by the way, Dad, I want to act,” RMD said.
The actor explained that his son intentionally waited until earning his degree to avoid giving the impression that he was leaning on his father’s fame or skipping the value of formal education. “He said none of my children are doing what I do,” RMD added.
Tega’s reasoning struck a deep chord with his father. “For him to have the courage to say, ‘I just wanted to finish school so you wouldn’t think I’m doing this because of you’—that really got to me,” RMD said.
Hearing those words brought both emotion and admiration. “It made me cry, but I was also incredibly proud,” he admitted.
RMD emphasized that his son’s choice to complete his education before pursuing acting reflected maturity, self-reliance, and a strong sense of purpose. “I was proud he wanted to build his own foundation before stepping into his passion.”
Currently based in Los Angeles, Tega is working multiple jobs while striving to break into the demanding entertainment industry. “He’s in LA now, juggling three jobs just to make it happen,” RMD said.
He commended his son’s work ethic, stressing that long-term success in film demands persistence, sacrifice, and patience. “He’s putting in the effort and earning his place instead of expecting shortcuts.”
On the subject of Revelations, RMD expressed satisfaction with the film’s international acclaim. “It’s won over four awards,” he said, highlighting its recognition at the Utah International Film Awards Festival as a significant achievement.
“It even won there, which makes me very proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” he added.
