According to a report by Vanguard on Sunday, August 16, 2026, the Accord Party has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu called Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to congratulate him on his victory before the official declaration of the election result.
The party’s chieftain, Pelumi Olajengbesi, made the disclosure while addressing journalists at the Independent National Electoral Commission collation centre in Osogbo shortly after Adeleke was declared winner of the governorship election.
Olajengbesi commended Tinubu for what he described as the President’s decision not to interfere in the electoral process.
He said the development demonstrated Tinubu’s commitment to his earlier pledge that the election would be free, fair and credible.
However, the Accord Party chieftain faulted some aspects of the exercise, alleging that opposition supporters were subjected to oppression and arrests.
He claimed that more than 11 people were arrested during the election, while maintaining that the process was credible.
The Accord Party further praised Tinubu for allowing the electoral process to proceed and for accepting the outcome after Adeleke was declared winner.
Speaking on the President’s reported call to Adeleke, Olajengbesi said, “Let me tell you this quickly: even before the result was declared yesterday night, Mr. President called Mr. Governor and congratulated him, and that is good leadership.”
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.
The result secured Adeleke a second consecutive term as governor of Osun State.
