Oyetola had all the resources to win his re-election. But he couldn’t use them - Tinubu

 

 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly expressed concern over the defeat of former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola in his bid for a second term.

Tinubu was said to have made the comment during an emergency meeting with about 76 APC leaders from Osun State at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

The meeting reportedly focused on growing divisions within the party ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with some party members using the opportunity to present their grievances to the President.

One of the issues reportedly raised was the distribution of federal appointments, with some APC stakeholders alleging that Oyetola’s political camp had received a larger share of the appointments.

A former lawmaker who attended the meeting reportedly told Punch that the party leaders warned that the internal disagreements could weaken the APC’s chances in the upcoming election.

Tinubu reportedly urged the stakeholders to resolve their differences and focus on working together to secure victory for the party.

While referring to Oyetola’s previous defeat, the President reportedly said, “Oyetola had all the resources to win his re-election. But he couldn’t use them.”

Tinubu reportedly reminded the party leaders that Oyetola’s defeat represented a setback for the APC as a whole and urged them to avoid repeating the divisions that contributed to the party’s previous loss.

He consequently called on the stakeholders to unite behind the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the election.
