Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, is set to be laid to rest today, Monday, August 24, 2026, in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, following his reported death at the age of 66.
Hassan reportedly passed away around 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, after battling a prolonged illness. His death has left colleagues, friends and fans across the Nigerian entertainment industry mourning.
According to a statement shared by his colleague and close friend, Jide Kosoko, special prayers will be held in his honour at the Pavilion in Ilaro.
Before his death, Hassan’s family revealed that he had been battling stage-four cancer and appealed for assistance in finding appropriate medical care.
Several colleagues, including Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, Antar Laniyan, Fausat Balogun and Lateef Adedimeji, had also gathered to pray for him as concerns over his health increased.
Hassan’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes, with many celebrating his decades-long contribution to Yoruba-language cinema.
He is survived by his children, family members and loved ones.
