No fewer than 300 members of different political parties have defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The decampees were formally received into the APM on Wednesday at Ward 7 in Orelope Local Government, in a movement led by Hon. Balogun Rauf Bobo.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Balogun Rauf, popularly known as Bobo, said their decision to join the APM was borne out of their desire to demonstrate loyalty and appreciation for the leadership and achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde.
He said the new members were also motivated by the political influence and leadership qualities of Bashorun Akinwale Solomon Akinwole, popularly known as Wolekanle, whom they described as a great political leader and grassroots mobiliser.
Balogun, a renowned grassroots politician who previously served as a councillor, pledged the unwavering support of the decampees for Governor Makinde’s presidential ambition.
He also assured of their commitment to supporting the political aspirations of Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi and other leaders of the APM.
According to him, the large number of people joining the party reflects the growing acceptance and popularity of the Allied Peoples Movement across Orelope Local Government and other parts of Oyo State.
The event attracted party leaders, supporters and political stakeholders, who welcomed the new members and expressed confidence that their defection would further strengthen the APM in the area.
The decampees pledged to work collectively with party leaders and members to promote the ideals of the APM and mobilise more supporters ahead of future political activities in the state.
