FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has addressed his political rift with the Governor of Kwara State, cautioning that the removal of key lawmakers from a governor's political framework could lead to significant repercussions.
During his monthly media briefing, broadcasted by TVC News, Wike discussed the political climate in Kwara State, specifically the ousting of three senators and a House of Representatives member from the governor's camp.
The former governor of Rivers State stressed the importance of political leaders thinking carefully about the impact of displacing multiple elected officials, especially those who might find alternative avenues to pursue their political ambitions.
Wike noted that the removed lawmakers could have opted to join opposition parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and potentially worked against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Instead, they aligned with a faction supportive of the President.
He questioned the rationale behind the Kwara State governor's accusations that he was backing candidates in the state, suggesting that the situation could have unfolded differently had those lawmakers chosen to support opposition parties.
Wike emphasized the risks associated with alienating several elected officials simultaneously, warning that it could lead to challenging political circumstances for the governor. "You have removed three senators and a House member; you need to be an exceptionally strong governor to handle that. I’m not a governor, but trying to eliminate all these individuals will lead to a crisis," he remarked.
