Former Super Eagles forward, Peter Osaze Odemwingie has strongly criticized Odion Ighalo for advising Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen to leave European football for the Saudi Pro League.
Ighalo previously suggested that Osimhen should accept lucrative offers from Saudi clubs, such as Al-Hilal's push to trigger his former release clause, arguing that a brief stint in the Middle East would secure his financial future before returning to Europe in his late 20s.
Osimhen ultimately opted to join Galatasaray on a permanent deal.
Speaking on the Rash4Christ Podcast alongside Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Odemwingie dismissed the logic of Ighalo's recommendation, emphasizing that top-tier sporting ambition should supersede immediate financial gains during a player's peak years.
“Go there at the right time, but if you can play in Europe, it’s a joke to go somewhere else. I understand what he’s trying to say, that titles won’t feed his family, but he’s still earning decent money in Europe. Encouraging someone in his prime to just go for money is foolishness. Top players in the head don’t think that way.”
