Lady who lost her marriage 14 years ago shares 3 mistakes that made her lose it

A Nigerian lady has opened up on three mistakes she believes contributed to the end of her marriage, urging women to learn from her past experiences.

The young woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, explained that disrespect, nagging, and ungratefulness were the major reasons her marriage ended 14 years ago.

In a video shared online, she admitted that she was young and sometimes failed to appreciate her husband’s efforts during their marriage.

She also recalled how she corrected her husband in public, constantly checked his phone and failed to show enough appreciation for the gifts and financial support he gave her.

Lady Says Disrespect Contributed to Marriage Breakdown

Speaking about the first mistake, the woman identified disrespect as a major issue in her marriage.

According to her, she often corrected her husband whenever he made mistakes while speaking English because she was a university graduate.

She explained that she would sometimes respond with more words whenever her husband said something, adding that she later realised that her behaviour could hurt his ego.

In her words:

“Number one is Disrespect.

“See, disrespect is a big deal for men. My man go talk one and I talk three because I’m a graduate. I just came out of university that time body dey pepper me then. The man talk English, I correct him.

“Men don’t like correction like that and worse still, if you want to correct, correct him in the house or when he’s in a good mood. If you are outside and your man make a mistake, you will support him. If he talk nonsense something, you will support him whether he’s right or he’s wrong.

“Don’t correct him in public, Please don’t try it. Don’t try it.

“Men have this thing called ego don’t reach there.”

Woman Admits Nagging and Checking Husband’s Phone

The woman listed nagging as the second mistake that contributed to the end of her marriage.

She explained that she used to question her husband whenever he appeared quiet or spent time away from her, often suspecting that another woman was involved.

However, she said she later understood that men could have personal and business challenges they might not be ready to discuss.

She urged women not to assume that every time their husbands were away or quiet, they were cheating.

She said:

“Number 2. Nagging.

“See, I was a bit young then but ladies, let’s understand something. There is something about men. It not every time men is outside they are cheating.

“Men have a lot going on with them. Maybe he just had a bad day, maybe you know his contract didn’t pay up his business didn’t pay, he lost something and he doesn’t want to talk, he’s quiet and you’d be like, who is Mary? Who is Josephine? Who is Agatha?

“It’s not everything that’s about a woman, and this is one thing. We are the ones who have made our husbands go out and be drinking and be indulging.

“While you are there nagging the man. The side chick is there telling him, I miss you, I miss you, come to me and this is how I successfully chased this man away.”

She also admitted that she regularly checked her husband’s phone whenever he returned from abroad.

The woman advised married women to stop constantly checking their partners’ phones, noting that they could have private conversations or personal challenges unrelated to infidelity.

She added:

“And mind you, he used to live abroad. Each time he comes, I will check his phone. Ladies, stop checking men’s phones.

“Stop it. Stop it. You will be checking his phone and checking and checking.

“People have a life. Maybe he’s not talking to you, he’s not telling you these things because he might just be talking with his mom, he might be having a bad day. Men don’t keep their phones away from you because they are cheating. Maybe because they have a business that hasn’t matured and he doesn’t want to talk to you yet. Please, hold yourself.

“Everything in the world does not revolve around you and this is what I did and it cost me my marriage.”

Lady Says Ungratefulness Also Cost Her Marriage

The woman identified ungratefulness as the third reason she believed her marriage failed.

Recounting how her husband supported her financially, she said he bought her a car just three months after they met.

She, however, admitted that she did not show much appreciation for his gifts and financial assistance.

According to her, whenever he sent her money through MoneyGram, she would simply call to confirm that she had received it instead of expressing gratitude.

She recalled:

“Number three ungratefulness.

“I came from a poor background, a poor girl like me. I met this man in August. He bought me a car in November for my birthday. I collect the car.

“I will just say thanks. Yeah, thanks. The man will send me money through Moneygram and I will just call and say I’ve received.

“Sometimes, he will be the one to call me and say, have you seen the money? That’s rubbish.”

Woman Recalls Rejecting Husband’s Gift as She Wanted Bigger Car

She further explained that her attitude made her husband feel that his efforts were not appreciated.

The woman recalled that when her husband reminded her that he had bought her a car, she complained that it was a one-door Corolla, even though she admitted that it was suitable for her at the time.

She said she was already hoping to get a bigger vehicle, such as an SUV or Jeep, despite not knowing how to drive.

In her words:

“Ungratefulness makes man keeps on feeling that he wasn’t doing enough and you know, eventually, he told me, see, listen, okay? I’ve gotten you a car, I will be like, it was a one-door Corolla but the truth is that it was okay for me, a university graduate, a small girl at that time but I dey eye something bigger. I was looking at a bigger car. I want SUV/Jeep. I want that. Even though, I never even know how to drive. This is ungratefulness made me lose my marriage.”

Lady Advises Women to Appreciate Their Partners

Reflecting on her experience, the woman advised women to respect and appreciate men who make efforts to support them.

She warned that taking a partner’s sacrifices for granted could eventually damage a relationship.

She said:

“If today, you have a man, a good man who is doing one or two for you, pls respect him. You respect him. Otherwise, you will only have your eyes to cry. When they give you something as a lady, you will say, thank you, sir.

“God bless you.”
