Davido Recalls How He Spent His First N20M Endorsement Deal
Afrobeats sensation Davido has taken a walk down memory lane, revealing how he blew through his first major payday an N20 million endorsement deal when he was just 17 years old. The singer shared the story on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of himself holding the official documents from the deal.
Davido, who had only released two songs at the time, said the deal marked a turning point in his music journey. According to him, the excitement of suddenly having that kind of money led to a series of extravagant decisions.
“1st endorsement deal. MY FIRST 20M NAIRA. I PAY ASA HIM PERCENTAGE. FROM THERE I GO BUY CAMARO. FROM CAMARO NAH EKO HOTEL. ME AND @BREDHKN ONE WHOLE FLOOR ONE WEEK. MONEY FINISH,” Davido wrote in the caption.
He first paid his then-manager ASA his agreed cut, then splurged on a Chevrolet Camaro. But the spending spree didn’t stop there. Davido and his cousin B-Red, who is also an artist, went on to rent an entire floor at Eko Hotel, where they reportedly partied for a full week. By the end of the week, the money was gone.
Fans online reacted with a mix of amusement and nostalgia, noting how far Davido has come since those early days. The DMW boss is now one of Africa’s biggest musical exports, with numerous endorsement deals, awards, and international collaborations under his belt.
The story serves as both a humorous reminder of youthful exuberance and a motivational tale of growth, as Davido has since evolved into a savvy businessman and respected figure in the entertainment industry.
