Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has opened up about a startling experience from his younger years, revealing that he was once paid to pretend to be physically disabled as part of a staged miracle in a church.
Solade disclosed during an interview with Feel Right News TV, recalling the incident from a period when he was still a student and had not yet become a recognised actor.
According to the veteran actor, he was recruited to appear as a cripple during a church service, where he would later be presented as someone who had miraculously regained his health.
“I have been used for a miracle then, when I was not popular. I acted as a cripple, they paid me; I used the money to drink, then I was a student,” Solade recalled.
The actor did not disclose how much he was paid or identify the church or individuals who organised the alleged staged miracle. He said the people involved are still alive and that he chose not to reveal their identities.
“The people involved are still alive; I just don’t want to mention names,” he said.
Solade’s revelation has generated renewed discussion around claims of staged miracles and the methods sometimes allegedly used to create dramatic testimonies during religious programmes in Nigeria.
For the actor, however, the episode dates back to a very different stage of his life, when he was a young student looking for ways to make money before establishing himself in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
The revelation also offers a glimpse into Solade’s early life before he became one of Nollywood’s recognisable veteran performers, with a career spanning several decades across film, television and theatre.
His comments have since attracted attention online, particularly because of the unusual nature of his account and his decision to acknowledge his own participation while refusing to name those who allegedly arranged the performance.
