Even If All 36 Govs Decamp To APC And Seyi Tinubu Is Appointed INEC Chairman Tinubu Is Going—Dalung

 In an interview with Daily Independent, former Minister Solomon Dalung warned that President Bola Tinubu will face serious political resistance in 2027, despite the growing number of politicians defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC). 

Dalung argued that even if every state governor in Nigeria were to join the APC, and if Tinubu’s son, Seyi, were appointed INEC chairman, the president would still struggle to overcome rising public dissatisfaction.

He stated that defections don’t equate to genuine popular support. Using Delta State as an example, Dalung noted that the recent move of a controversial governor to the APC was not welcomed by the people, highlighting a disconnect between political leaders and their constituents.

He further referenced Akwa Ibom, where lawmakers refused to follow their governor in defecting to the APC, with some opting to resign instead. This, he said, demonstrates that political decisions are often individual rather than reflective of public will.

Dalung strongly criticized Tinubu’s leadership, accusing him of worsening poverty and hardship while failing to show empathy. He condemned the president’s appeal for citizens to endure economic hardship while he and his family lead extravagant lifestyles.

According to Dalung, this disconnect is fueling the emergence of a determined coalition that will challenge Tinubu’s administration moving forward

“I’m not claiming to be a prophet,” Dalung said, “but even if all 36 governors join the APC and Seyi Tinubu is made INEC chairman, Tinubu will still face stiff opposition. He has deliberately deepened poverty and hardship and acts as though he has no regrets. While Nigerians are asked to sacrifice, he and his family continue to live in luxury. When will they make their own sacrifices?”
