Rivers State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday clarified his whereabouts amid speculations that he was heading to Ibadan for the PDP national convention. Speaking during a call-in audio interview with Channels TV, Wike revealed that he had traveled to Lagos to celebrate the 65th birthday of his close friend and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose.

I came to Lagos to celebrate with my very good friend, the former governor of the state, who will be celebrating his 65th birthday tomorrow. I am here with friends to celebrate with him,” Wike said, stressing that his trip had nothing to do with the convention.
The PDP has been embroiled in internal tensions over the conduct of its ongoing convention, with legal disputes surrounding party primaries and leadership contests. Wike commented on these developments, emphasizing the need for all party members to adhere to court judgments and uphold the rule of law.
He criticized attempts by some party members to bypass legal directives and proceed with party conventions in defiance of court orders. “We are not a guiding organization. Let us show Nigerians that we believe in the rule of law. You cannot disobey a court judgment and claim to take over governance,” Wike stated.
