Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has reaffirmed his commitment to the ruling party, dismissing reports suggesting he had instructed his supporters to defect to the Accord Party.
The former governorship aspirant made his position known during the monthly meeting of the Osun APC Elders Caucus held in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State.
Although Omisore attended the meeting, his message was delivered by the Director-General of his campaign organisation, Hon. Ajibola Famurewa, who insisted that the former APC National Secretary remains a loyal member of the party.
Famurewa explained that while some of Omisore's supporters left the APC after the party's governorship primary, they acted on their own and were never directed by the former senator to join another political party.
He stated that no one could truthfully claim that Omisore personally informed them he had left the APC, adding that any official directive from the former senator would have been communicated through his campaign structure.
According to him, political parties operate on the principle of voluntary membership, giving individuals the freedom to join or leave as they choose; He added that some of those who defected had personal reasons for doing so, despite efforts to convince them to remain in the APC.
Famurewa also appealed to party members to remain united and committed as preparations continue for the August 15 election, urging supporters to come out in large numbers to vote, protect their ballots, and resist any form of intimidation.
Speaking at the gathering, the Chairman of the Osun APC Elders Caucus, Engr. Sola Akinwumi, encouraged members to intensify grassroots mobilisation across the state; He expressed confidence that the APC's wide support base would give the party victory in the forthcoming governorship election.
