The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Bolakale Kawu, has publicly distanced himself from a viral video that allegedly links his 2027 gubernatorial ambition to ritual activities.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Kawu described the claims and the associated video as false, mischievous, and entirely unconnected to him or his campaign.
This clarification follows widespread social media circulation of the video, which features a man identified as Alhaji Saheed Ishola, popularly known as LogunOfe, making comments and engaging in activities that are purportedly connected to ritual sacrifice in relation to the upcoming election.
The controversy was triggered by an earlier report claiming that some supporters of the PDP visited a shrine in Ogun State and prayed for the death of individuals perceived as opponents of Kawu’s gubernatorial bid, including notable figures like former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
The report and the viral video have stoked tensions and heightened concerns about the influence of ritualistic practices allegedly linked to political ambitions in the region.
However, Kawu’s campaign team swiftly moved to clarify the situation, emphasizing that the candidate has no relationship with the individual featured in the video or with any activities associated with him.
In the statement, Kawu’s media office emphasized that the PDP candidate has never authorized or sanctioned anyone to make such statements or engage in activities of that nature on his behalf.
“Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu has no connection whatsoever with the said individual’s utterances or his alleged actions," the statement reads.
The campaign team also stressed that any attempt to associate Kawu with the content of the video or the activities depicted is baseless and should be disregarded entirely.
