Osun Election: What I Did After Hearing APC Was Paying ₦50,000 Per Vote — Davido’s Father

Businessman Adedeji Adeleke, father of Afrobeats singer Davido, has revealed how he reacted after learning about allegations of widespread vote-buying during the Osun State governorship election.

Adeleke said he became concerned after hearing claims that substantial sums of money were allegedly being offered to voters to influence their choices at the polls. Some of the reports he received suggested that individuals were being offered as much as ₦50,000 in exchange for a single vote.

The businessman explained that rather than becoming overwhelmed by the reports, he withdrew to a private part of his home, knelt down and prayed. He said he asked God to ensure that voters remained free to make their decisions regardless of any financial inducements they may have received.

Reflecting on the election, Adeleke said he believed divine intervention contributed significantly to the eventual outcome. He also rejected the idea that his family's political achievements were primarily driven by wealth, influence or political connections, insisting that faith and the backing of ordinary people had played important roles.

He further spoke about the importance of his Christian faith and the role it has played in his life. According to him, prayer remains an essential part of his daily routine, while reading the Bible provides him with encouragement, guidance and strength when he faces difficult circumstances.

Adeleke said his religious convictions have helped him maintain confidence and composure during uncertain periods. He added that his faith has also reduced his dependence on influential individuals or the need to seek their favour.

Describing what he heard about the alleged spending during the election, Adeleke said: “They spent 60 billion, as we heard. In some places, they bought most votes for as high as ₦50,000 for a single vote. On the day of the election, when I heard the kind of money they were spending, I went back to my little corner in my room, and I knelt down and I prayed to God."
