According to a Facebook post on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi called for urgent intervention in the case of a Moroccan woman who alleged that her marriage to Nasir Musa Idris had become abusive.
Gumi appealed to Kaduna state Governor Uba Sani to ensure that the matter was resolved without further delay.
In a video shared by the islamic cleric, the woman, Khadija Diab, accused Idris of lying about the circumstances surrounding their marriage.
She said they met in Morocco through her work and remained in contact for several months. She said Idris later approached her family and began arrangements for their marriage.
Diab said the marriage was not completed in Morocco because the Moroccan court rejected their file. She alleged that Idris had also failed to provide the separate accommodation he had promised.
She said he instead rented a house in a remote area. She added that she spent about a year washing his clothes by hand because he refused to buy a washing machine.
The woman also alleged that Idris failed to provide adequate care when she became ill. She said he refused to take her to hospital, despite her worsening condition. She further alleged that he seized her passport and threatened to take her to Nigeria.
Diab said she eventually sought help from Sheikh Gumi whom Idris had previously taken her and her mother to visit. She said Idris had presented the cleric as someone he respected.
According to her, she later approached the Gumi after Idris refused to resolve their problems. She said she eventually left the house and told them to either take her with them or leave her on the streets.
Gumi said the woman had suffered physical, emotional and financial hardship. He argued that she should not be required to give up her financial rights to obtain freedom from an abusive marriage.
He also called for reforms in the handling of matrimonial cases in Kaduna. He said delays in such cases could leave vulnerable women trapped in harmful marriages.
