Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has said he does not support FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s efforts to revive the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while insisting that any political candidate backed by Wike in Ebonyi State cannot affect their relationship.
Speaking during an interview with TVC, Umahi said he was unaware of any candidate Wike may be supporting in Ebonyi State.
“I don't know if Wike has a candidate here in Ebonyi State. He has not told me that he has a candidate here. But his candidate cannot break our relationship, and his candidate is not part of our relationship,” Umahi said.
The minister also maintained that he had effectively ended his association with the PDP when he left the party, adding that he would not be concerned if efforts were being made to revive it.
Umahi further explained that his disagreement with the PDP was largely influenced by what he described as a sense of betrayal among people in the Southeast.
According to him, the region had consistently supported the PDP and voted for the party’s presidential candidates, but he claimed that the party failed to reciprocate that loyalty when the Southeast expected its support.
He also dismissed suggestions that Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru was engaged in a political battle with Wike.
Umahi said some political candidates in Ebonyi were instead attempting to use Wike’s political influence to strengthen their own positions and secure support in the state.
